Ultimate Veggie Grill

The next morning I woke up to music blaring and kids dragging their electric cars in the road. I went to bed in a forest and woke up in a city. The site I picked was in a congestion of different sites… and it being Easter Weekend… the entire city of Dallas showed up. Oh Joy. After making breakfast and sitting around trying to relax I got up and left my camp site. As I left, I called the front office to report the site that was blaring music from…read more

The Hype of Cedar Hill

Posted by in Camping

I recently picked up the book 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles¬†at REI. Brilliant read. I do notice that may people including this book recommends to go to Cedar Hill State Park. There is a lot of hype surrounding this park. It was pricy. For a site with electric and water it was $25 a night plus park fee. The weekend total was $60. I left my apartment at 6pm and got there close to 7pm due to traffic. It was nice that the front office stays open until 10pm. I…read more

What It Means To Camp Alone

Woke up before dawn and didn’t see any change in the weather. This is a bummer because the lake is beautiful, but I didn’t want to get my gear wet. Like a ground hog I poked my head out and went back inside to sleep for a little longer. Woke up for good at around 8:45 am and headed to the front office to pay for my site. Left the guard house and did some time lapse of the lake and I even waded through the water. I got super…read more

Packed last night, I brought everything I needed to the car. I also reserved my site at Cooper Lake State Park. Each night costs $10. I reserved two nights. With the park fee the total was $30. I started on my way and drove for a little to the lake side to get a time lapse. I also stopped at the Home Depot to pick up a few things. I got some paracord and 2 tarps just in case. It was going to be a very wet weekend. It was…read more

Lessons Learned

Woke up before dawn and slowly got out of the tent. It is just so cold. It has to be below freezing. I went to look at the thermometer in my car and it said exactly that. Wow! I drove from my camp all the way up to the look out near the entrance. I wanted to get a time lapse of the sun rise. And it was spectacular. I loved it. After the sun rose I packed up my camera gear and headed back to camp. I stopped at…read more

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Woke up before dawn and packed up my car. Next time… pack car the night before. No fun to do it right in the morning. Waze says it will take 5 hours and 30 min. Started with less than half a tank. I reset the odometer and off we go. ———- 3¬†hours later———– Stopped for gas at a place called the Pecan Shed. I think it had a legit breakfast burrito. Super spicy salsa and a great size for the price. The place was filled with typical Texas brickabrack. Cute….read more
