I have talked about my skin and scalp conditions over the years in a few of my YouTube Videos. And I know some people have similar issues and I thought a nice blog post about it might be a good idea. I used to feel such shame in even acknowledging the fact that I had a problem. I used to shampoo my hair multiple times a day, because I hated people thinking I was dirty. Little did I know that it made things worse. The shame I felt for something I couldn’t control was so debilitating in some respects. I never liked people touching me, especially my face or my head. I was afraid they would unlock my hidden shame.
My scalp and the back of my ears were dry and flaky. To the point my skin would crack and bleed. I sought medical help, but they could only treat the symptoms not the cause. I asked over and over again for different treatments and help. This all started when I was around 13. I never got breakouts with zits or acne, the skin on my face and the rest of my body has always been clear. Thank God. Everyone always compliments me on my perfect complexion and skin, little do they know my shame. I started cutting my own hair because the sheer embarrassment I would get when going to get my hair done.
My hormones raged on my scalp not on my face. I had used anti-dandruff shampoo for over two decades. Throwing money at anything that could help. From prescriptions to fancy shampoos. I even went with the no shampoo method. Only apple cider vinegar and baking soda. I also did coconut oil masks and so many more. I even shaved my head in desperation. LONG story short I found something finally that has cleared things up for me. My head still has flare ups now and then, but for the most part my scalp is clear for the first time in 20 years.
The first thing that helps is a supplement called: Skin Restoring Phytoceramides. Which I buy from Amazon for around $18. It is fantastic and vegetarian. I also threw away all those crap anti-dandruff shampoos, because they only made things worse. I have switched to two different brands: Moroccanoil and Macadamia. Both are Sulfate, phosphate, and paraben free. I also stopped shampooing my hair everyday and instead only shampoo my hair 2-3 times a week. And because you aren’t shampooing your hair every day the expensive shampoo lasts for months. I switch back and forth between the two brands so my scalp doesn’t get used to one and flare up again. I hope this helps someone. If you have skin issues I recommend trying the supplement, who knows it might help you. Comment if you have any questions and I will try to help.
